Congratulations to this week’s Coldwell Banker McMahan Champions of Character award recipient, basketball’s Makaine Huff. The Tiger junior was selected because of his responsibility in all of the areas of being a student-athlete. Jon carries a 4.0 cumulative grade point average, always gives 110 percent on the court, is active on campus and, according to Coach Happy Osborne, is always on time. The Foster, Ky. native is a perfect example of the NAIA Champions of Character Program.

Congratulations to this week’s Coldwell Banker McMahan Champions of Character award recipient, softball’s Kendall Lawson. The Tiger junior was selected after organizing her team for participation in Harmony Christian Church’s Christmas Box Program. The program sends a gift box of items to children in third world countries and, for many of the recipients, it is the first time they have ever received a Christmas present. A kinesiology major from Louisville, Kendall is a perfect example of the NAIA Champions of Character Program.

Congratulations to this week’s Coldwell Banker McMahan Champion of Character award recipient, soccer’s David Guthrie. The Tiger freshman was selected after displaying outstanding sportsmanship last week in a match versus Lindsey Wilson College. When a Blue Raiders’ player was hurt at the end of the game, none of his teammates noticed and he had no help getting off the field, Guthrie came to his aid - is a perfect example of the NAIA Champions of Character Program.

Congratulations to this week’s Coldwell Banker McMahan Champions of Character award recipient, Jessica Hoeh The Tiger senior was selected because of her leadership in coordinating the volleyball team’s successful Dig for the Cure campaign last week. The event raised funds and awareness for breast cancer research, thanks to Hoeh’s leadership in making it a priority within her team and on the Georgetown College campus. The Cincinnati native will graduate in May with a degree in kinesiology and is a perfect example of the NAIA Champions of Character Program.

Congratulations to this week’s Coldwell Banker McMahan Champion of Character award recipient, Georgetown College Softball. The team raised over $2,000 during their fall tournament and instead of keeping the funds for their program, decided to donate the money for the medical expenses of former assistant coach Scott Walters’ brother who is battling cancer. The team also participated in a fitness awareness program at Southern Elementary School, displaying their commitment to serving others and a perfect example of the NAIA Champions of Character Program.

Congratulations to this week’s Coldwell Banker McMahan Champion of Character award recipient, Georgetown College Baseball’s Mike Steinke. The freshman from Centerville, Oh. was nominated because for being a true champion of character both on and off the field for the week of October 13, 2008. Examples of his willingness to help others include volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and assisting in hosting Tiger Volleyball’s Boneyard Brawl during homecoming weekend. He is a perfect example of the tenant of servant leadership within the NAIA Champions of Character Program.

Congratulations to this week’s Coldwell Banker McMahan Champion of Character award recipient, Georgetown College Basketball’s Katie Filliatreau. The senior from Springfield, Ky. was nominated because of her integrity on and off the court. Katie always gives her all and never takes a shortcut on the court or classroom. She will graduate in May with a degree in exercise science and a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 and was one of 12 NAIA student-athletes selected to participate in the American Red Cross internship program in Washington D.C. last summer.

Character award recipient, Georgetown College Football’s Ryan Moss.
The senior from Winchester, Ky. was nominated because of his his continued
example in the core value of servant leadership in the NAIA Champions of
Character Program by his willingness to share his starting role in order to
make the offensive line more experienced and putting his team before
himself. Moss hopes to make a career in strength training after finishing
his collegiate career.

Character award recipient, Georgetown College Baseball’s Jake Mahan.
The senior from Corbin, Ky. was nominated because of the continued example
in all of the core values of the NAIA Champions of Character Program:
servant leadership, respect, sportsmanship, responsibility and integrity
both on and off the field. He and many of his teammates continue to
give of their time as volunteers of the Toyota Miracle League, an
organization that gives children with various disabilities the chance to be
a part of a team. Mahan plans a future in education and coaching after
graduation.

recipient, Georgetown College Volleyball’s Cassie Moore. The junior
from Florence, Ky was nominated after being elected president of the Student
Athlete Leadership Council. “Cassie is a leader on and off the court,
always has a great attitude and is respectful of our opponents,” said Head
Coach Jeff Hulsmeyer. “I can always count on her.” Moore, a
biology major, holds a cumulative grade point average and is planning a
future career in medicine.

Character award recipient, Georgetown College Soccer’s Emily Marshall.
The senior from Louisville was nominated after volunteering to play in a
junior varsity soccer match because she identified the need for some
experience on the young team. “Emily definitely puts team before self and
embodies the NAIA Champions of Character value of servant leadership,” said
Head Coach Leah Crews Castleman. “She leads by her actions.” Marshall, a
biology major, holds a 3.6 cumulative grade point average and is planning a
future in secondary education.
