Dr. Robert M. Davis
Bob Davis,
Class of 1950, left his mark on Georgetown
College as basketball, baseball and football coach and chair of
the Physical Education Department. His 415 career basketball
victories stood as a school record for 20 years and his 1961
team was runner-up in the NAIA National Tournament. During his
outstanding career, he has been inducted in the NAIA Hall of
Fame (one of five GC alumni so honored), been named NAIA Coach
of the Year and vice chair of the U.S. Olympic Basketball
Committee, and received a Georgetown College Alumni Achievement
Award.
Kenneth B. Davis
Kenny Davis, Class of 1971, still stands as perhaps the best
basketball player to ever wear a Tiger uniform. A three-time
NAIA All-American, his four-year total of 3,003 points set a
career record for collegians in the state of Kentucky. He still
stands as Georgetown's All-Time scoring leader, nearly 30 years
after his Tiger career ended. His ability on the court gave him
the opportunity to represent the College on five continents and
to serve in a once-in-a-lifetime role as captain of the famed
1972 U.S. Olympic Basketball Team. His efforts have been
rewarded with induction into the NAIA Hall of Fame and a
Georgetown College Alumni Achievement Award.
Donna B. Hawkins
Donna Hawkins, Class of 1965, was an exemplary student-
athlete as an undergraduate student at GC. She began her
teaching and coaching career at Georgetown in 1980 and has
become the winningest coach in the history of the college. Her
73 percent overall winning percentage comes from 560 wins in
volleyball through 1997 and 309 wins in women's softball through
1994. Her 1997 volleyball team brought home championships from
the Mid-South Conference and Mid-South Region Tournaments. She
stands as one of the top winningest volleyball coaches in the
NAIA.
L.E. "Brad" Jones
Brad Jones, Class of 1921, earned the nickname "The Legend"
for his 44-year tenure with Georgetown College. He wore many
hats in that time, including athletic director, physical
education director, business manager and coach at various times
for basketball, football, golf and track. While still coaching
the golf team at age 94, he was thought to be the oldest
collegiate coach in the country. It was said of Jones, "He was
always busy." He received an honorary doctor of laws degree from
the College in 1973.
James B. Reid
Jim Reid, Class of 1970, exemplified integrity and
dedication both on and off the basketball court. As a star
undergraduate player, he helped lead the Tigers to 82 wins. He
was named head coach for men's basketball in 1973, taking over
for legendary Bob Davis, and proceeded to eclipse Davis' win
total to become the all-time winningest coach in Georgetown
basketball with 529 victories. His 1996 team was runner-up in
the NAIA National Tournament. His stellar career led to an NAIA
Hall of Fame indcution, being named NAIA Coach of the Year twice
and being honored with a Georgetown College Alumni Achievement
Award.
