Georgetown College Releases Schedule, To Play University of Louisville in Freedom Hall

Georgetown College has pulled off what few NAIA schools could ever achieve – to play two premier NCAA Division I opponents in one season. The Tigers will travel to Freedom Hall to play the University of Louisville on November 1, before making a trip to Dayton to take on the Flyers on November 6.

“I can’t thank Mr. Jurich and Coach Pitino enough for this opportunity for our program,” said Georgetown College Head Coach Happy Osborne. “As a kid growing up in Kentucky it is a dream to play in Freedom Hall, it is such a hallowed arena.”

The 7:00 p.m. tipoff will be televised live on WHAS-TV in Louisville and gives the Tigers a big opportunity for a national stage. “It’s great for our school and our program to have this kind of exposure. I hope that our team will be competitive and that people will be impressed with how hard we play,” said Osborne.

The game with the University of Dayton developed from a friendship between UD Assistant Coach Reggie Rankin and Osborne. To say Georgetown is thrilled to play in the 14,000 seat UD Arena is an understatement. It has been the host to 16 of the last 33 NCAA National Tournaments and underwent major renovations in 2002.

“The campus is busting with excitement,” said Osborne. “These games (with Louisville and Dayton) will expose our weaknesses and help prepare us for the always tough NAIA Mid-South Conference.”

The rest of Georgetown’s schedule includes tough competition at all levels, including 13 of the 30 opponents that played in their respective national tournaments last season.
