Rankings Released, Georgetown Seventh in NAIA

The Georgetown College Tigers have been picked seventh in the NAIA in a pre-season poll released by Street & Smith’s. In addition to the Tigers’ ranking, senior Brian Silverhorn has been named to the All-America First Team, with Mark Surgalski being selected as an honorable mention.

“The lineup is much the same this season for Coach Happy Osborne, who should improve on last year’s 26-8 record. Three returning starters averaged more than 12 points a game, led by 6-6 Silverhorn (16.9). Other key players back include 5-11 Craig Schoen and 6-8 Mark Surgalski. Transfers will also play a significant role for the Tigers,” according to the NAIA preview portion of the annual publication.

Robert Morris (IL) is at the top of the rankings followed by Louisiana State-Shreveport, Oklahoma City, Mountain State (WV), Texas Wesleyan and Azusa Pacific (CA) before Georgetown, while Oklahoma Baptist, Union (TN) and Olivet Nazarene (IL) round out the top ten rankings.

In addition, Georgetown has been chosen to win the Mid-South Conference by the conference coaches, followed by Lindsey Wilson College, Campbellsville University, the University of the Cumberlands, Pikeville College and West Virginia Tech.

In the women’s game, the Mid-South Conference coaches chose Georgetown to finish second behind last year’s regular season winners, The University of the Cumberlands. The top three selections, Cumberlands, Georgetown and Lindsey Wilson all advanced to the NAIA National Tournament last year, with Cumberlands reaching the second round.
