The Georgetown College Tigers pulled away in the second half to beat visiting Asbury College 75-55 Saturday night in the first game of the 2006-07 season for both teams.

The first half went back and forth, with both teams making beginning of the season errors, including a total of 19 turnovers, and Asbury taking a 31-29 lead into the locker room.

But Georgetown’s depth on the bench played a vital role, as Head Coach Happy Osborne played nine players and substituted almost as often as the possession changed. The long lineup of fresh legs wore down the Eagles in the second half and the Tigers were able to pull out a 12 point lead with 8:26 left and never looked back. “I thought that holding them to 24 points in the second half was big,” said Osborne. “We could have panicked at half time but we came out and turned it around.”

“The thing I like about the game was that we were able to hold them to 24 points in the second half and I thought that Kevin (Reinhardt) and Chris (Lee) played well.”

Well it was as the duo of newcomers combined for 36 total points. Lee, a transfer from South Carolina State, added nine rebounds and a blocked shot, while Reinhardt grabbed four rebounds and also blocked a shot. Asbury was led by Brett Johnson with 22 points and 9 rebounds was hard to stop, shooting 10 of 15 from the field.

Next up for the Tigers is Spalding University at home on Monday at 7:30 p.m. before traveling to Freedom Hall to take on Louisville on Wednesday.
