Georgetown's Hamblen named to AFCA's All America Team
Georgetown
College junior Clay Hamblen has been named to the American
Football Coaches’ Association All America team. Hamblen is
honored as an all purpose player and is the only Kentucky player
of the 22 spots, given the national distinction.
“It is really exciting and a great honor to be a part of this team,” said Hamblen. “I am humbled but excited to be an All-American.”
Hamblen had a total of 880 all purpose yards in 11 games for the
Tigers. He averaged 15.3 yards in 31 punt returns for a total of
473 yards,
scoring two touchdowns, and 25.7 yards in 12 kickoff returns for
308 yards on the year. Defensively, he tallied 32 total tackles,
six interceptions and eight pass breakups.
In the off-season, Hamblen is now playing for the 16th-ranked Georgetown Men’s Basketball Team and is using the same talents of speed and strength to help the team off the bench. Football Head Coach Bill Cronin described the honor as one of the highest honors an individual can achieve in the NAIA and said he is proud of his player that seems to be able to do it all. “Clay is just the type of kid that you enjoy watching on the field. When the ball is in his hands, he is explosive.”
The communications major from Danville, IN is the son of Randy and Barbara Hamblen.
