Huntington University 67
Georgetown College 64
It was a classic game of basketball as NAIA Division I sixteenth rank Georgetown College fell to NAIA Division II #1 Huntington University 67-64.
The Tigers came out roaring and took an early 11-5 lead before Huntington called a timeout to talk things over. It worked, as they went on a 16-4 run to lead by eight at the 8:40 mark in the first half and went on to take a nine point lead to the locker room, 34-25.
Midway through the second half, Georgetown was down 43-51 before Brian Silverhorn scored five points in a row and then forced a Forester turnover to give the Tigers a big spark. With 3:40 to play, the Tigers took the lead for the first time since the beginning of the game, as Craig Schoen hit a jumper to make it 59-58.
The game went back and forth for three possessions before Huntington's Alex Kock hit a three to give his team a two point advantage. Georgetown's Craig Schoen threw up a three-pointer with two seconds left in the game that hit the rim but didn't go, as the Tigers fell to 9-3 on the season, while Huntington moved to 10-1.
Despite coming out with a loss, Head Coach Happy Osborne is "happier" with his Tiger team now than he has been all season. "I am proud of how they fought back from 13 down to make it a ballgame at the end. I saw a lot of things that I liked in this game and we can definitely build on this game."
Next Georgetown travels to Wilmore to face Berea College in the Mid-South KIAC Challenge hosted by Asbury College on Saturday. Tipoff is at 5:00 p.m.
