Georgetown Duo Named MSC Players of the Week (12-13-07)
Georgetown College’s Jerry Turner and Jayme Gilbert have been named the Mid-South Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Players of the Week.
Gilbert, a sophomore guard from Manchester, Kentucky, averaged 21.5 points for Georgetown last week. She hit 8 of 13 in the Lady Tigers loss to NCAA Division II Northern Kentucky University (72-58) and shot 70% from the field (7-10) in the 76-66 win at Cedarville University. Gilbert shot a perfect 10-10 from the foul line and also averaged 6.5 rebounds in both games.
The Lady Tigers will take an 8-2 record into a road game at Trevecca Nazarene University on December 20th. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST.
Turner, a 5’11 junior point guard for the NAIA #2 Tigers, dished out 15 assists, scored 19 points and added nine steals and 11 boards in Georgetown’s two wins this past week. Turner nearly recorded a triple-double in the Tigers’ 87-62 victory over Alice Lloyd College, finishing with nine points, seven assists and ten boards. The Tigers are a perfect 12-0 on the season and will host Montreat in their next game on January 2nd.
