The Streak is Still Alive - Georgetown 27-0 After Win at Pikeville (2-21-08)

The Georgetown College Tigers kept their winning streak alive, moving their record to 27-0, after a come-from-behind win at Pikeville on Thursday.  The victory makes for the 45th regular season win in a row.

Top-ranked Georgetown showed some grit, rallying from a nine-point deficit with eight minutes left to knock off reeling Pikeville 88-76.

Georgetown (27-0, 7-0 in the Mid-South Conference) outscored the Bears 26-5 in the final eight minutes to make the game look a lot more one-sided than it played out.

The Tigers have three more MSC games left in their quest for an undefeated regular season. They have home games against Cumberlands and West Virginia University Tech before a season-ending trip to Lindsey Wilson College on March 1. Pikeville (18-7, 2-5) will head to Campbellsville Saturday trying to end a four-game losing streak.

Georgetown hit 15-of-19 from the line and 11-of-14 in the second half and led 60-59 with 11:52 remaining before the Bears ripped off a 12-2 run, behind junior Ewan Linton. The 6-8 native of Kingston, Jamaica, finished with a game-high 16 points and six boards, and his dunk with 8:32 left gave the Bears a 71-62 lead.

But from there, it was all Tigers, who had five players score in the outburst. Junior Demetrius Guoins had seven, including a three and layin to begin the stretch. Guoins led the Tigers with 15 points off the bench on 7-of-11 shooting.

Three starters reached double digits for the Tigers, with seniors Justin Taylor and Gus Chase scoring 14 each. Taylor, a 6-3 guard, led the Tigers with eight rebounds, five steals and four assists. Junior Jerry Turner added 11.

Pikeville senior Jeff Ferguson had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, five of which came off the offensive glass.
