NAIA National Tournament: Women to Rematch Freed-Hardeman (3-12-08)
The
Georgetown College Tigers are headed to Jackson, Tn. for the National
Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Division I Women's Basketball
National Championship to be held March 19-26 in Jackson, Tn. The
Tigers have a first round match-up with Freed-Hardeman University on
Thursday, March 20 at 8:00 p.m. CST
The teams last faced each other on November 20 when the Lady Lions visited
Georgetown and took home a 72-71 win. The Tigers were without senior
guard Kim Ingle, who was out with a broken hand, and were led in scoring by
Jayme Gilbert with 19 points. Freed-Hardeman's Jana Cross had a
double-double of 24 points and ten rebounds.
Georgetown finished the season with a 23-9 record and were crowned the MSC
Tournament Champions after beating Pikeville, Cumberlands and Lindsey Wilson
in route to the title. The Tigers are ranked #29 and have a seventh seed in
the national tournament.
Second-seeded Freed-Hardeman is 26-7 and lost 73-62 to top-ranked and
undefeated Union University in the TransSouth Conference Finals.
