Softball's Tarplee, Thornton Honored as MSC Player and
Coach of the Year (4-24-08)
Senior shortstop Jennifer Tarplee was named the
Mid-South Conference Co-Player of the Year for the
second year in a row at the annual awards banquet
held in Georgetown, Ky. on Thursday. In his
fourth season as head coach of the Tigers, Thomas
Thornton was honored as Coach of the Year by his
conference peers.
The Tiger Softball program has achieved several
"firsts" for the program, including a national
ranking for most of the season and are the top-seed
in the conference tournament taking place at the
Georgetown College Soccer Complex this week.
The Tigers were also given the regular-season
championship trophy at the banquet.
Georgetown's Whitney Ealey (freshman third base),
Sarah Gronefeld (junior catcher/infielder), Kara
Renfro (senior centerfielder) and Samantha Barmore
(junior pitcher) joined Tarplee on the MSC First
Team All-Conference. Honorable Mention
selections were Brittany Gunther (sophomore
pitcher), York Samons (senior outfielder)
Rachel Johnson (freshman outfielder) and Victoria
Witt (junior pitcher).
Academic All-Conference honorees were Gronefeld,
Gunther, Kendall Lawson, Renfro, Tarplee and Witt.
