Georgetown College volleyball returns to the 2013 NAIA Volleyball National Championship, presented by J&L Enterprises and CNOS Foundation. The final site is in Sioux City, Iowa. The No. 12 Tigers (33-9) are making a second straight appearance and 16 overall.
"This is for what we work," said GC coach Nick Griffin. "We seem to be peaking at the right time, but it is all about getting there and seeing what you can do."
Georgetown learned its pool-play opponents – No. 13 Park University, RV Trinity Christian University and defending national champion and No. 2 Concordia University.
The Tigers open play 4:15 pm Tuesday, Dec. 3 against the Pirates (34-5). Park advanced to the final site with a straight-set win over fellow Kentucky team Asbury University. This is the first meeting between these two programs.
Georgetown then battles RV Trinity Christian (37-7), a team it beat in the Rumpke Invitational back in early September. The Tigers rolled the Trolls 25-22, 25-20, 25-15. TC has gone 30-5 since that loss and is on an eight-match win streak. The rematch is set for 4:15 pm Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Pool-play ends with a showdown with Concordia. The Eagles (23-2) are 35-9 all-time in matches at the national tournament. There are making an eighth-straight appearance and looking to become only the sixth team to ever repeat. Match is set for 4:15 pm Thursday, Dec. 5.
This is the third meeting between the two powerhouses. Concordia holds the 2-0 edge, with a straight-set win in 2012's pool-play and a 3-2 win in 2008 at Concordia.
"These are three great teams," Griffin said. "We just have to focus, play our style, and take it one match at a time."
There are five other pools for a total of 24 teams at the final site. After round-robin play, the two top teams of each pool advance into a single-elimination tournament starting Friday, Dec. 6. The top four teams from pool earn the final set of byes into the quarterfinals, while the other eight starting the elimination process.
The championship match will take place Saturday, Dec. 7. NeuLion, the NAIA's official video-streaming, will be broadcasting all 47 matches of the volleyball National Championship. Single-day packages can be purchased for $9.95, while an all-tournament pass is available for $24.95.

Fellow Mid-South Conference opponent Lindsey Wilson College is also in Sioux City, making it the second straight season the league has had two teams in the national tournament.
"I think it speaks volumes of the way our conference has been able to grow and develop," Griffin said. "It is always good to have more representatives at the final site. Our league as a whole is getting more attention and it's well deserved."
Georgetown has advanced into the second round of elimination play six times and once went as far as the finals.
