Softball's Tarplee, Thornton Honored as MSC Player and Coach of the Year (4-24-08)
Senior shortstop Jennifer Tarplee was named the
Mid-South Conference Co-Player of the Year for the
second year in a row at the annual awards banquet
held in Georgetown, Ky. on Thursday. In his
fourth season as head coach of the Tigers, Thomas
Thornton was honored as Coach of the Year by his
conference peers.
The Tiger Softball program has achieved several
"firsts" for the program, including a national
ranking for most of the season and are the top-seed
in the conference tournament taking place at the
Georgetown College Soccer Complex this week.
The Tigers were also given the regular-season
championship trophy at the banquet.
Georgetown's Whitney Ealey (freshman third base),
Sarah Gronefeld (junior catcher/infielder), Kara
Renfro (senior centerfielder) and Samantha Barmore
(junior pitcher) joined Tarplee on the MSC First
Team All-Conference. Honorable Mention
selections were Brittany Gunther (sophomore
pitcher), York Samons (senior outfielder)
Rachel Johnson (freshman outfielder) and Victoria
Witt (junior pitcher).
Academic All-Conference honorees were Gronefeld,
Gunther, Kendall Lawson, Renfro, Tarplee and Witt.
Renfro Adds to Honors, Named MSC Player of the Week Again (4-8-08)
Georgetown's Renfro wins second award in three weeks.
Kara Renfro of Georgetown College has been named the MId-South Conference Player of the Week. This is the second time Renfro, a native of Paint Lick, KY has been selected for the honor, the last she moved on to be honored as the NAIA National Player of the Week. The senior outfielder batted .500 during the Tiger's 5-1 week, including one homerun and five RBI's. She was also a perfect 4 of 4 in stolen bases.
Two More Commitments for Tiger Softball (1-30-08)
Head
Coach Thomas Thornton added two more members to his 2008-09 freshman class
on Tuesday with the signing of Jordan Clemmons and Sarah Morehead.
Clemmons, a student at Grayson County High, is a stand-out shortstop. "Jordan is a quality student and a great athlete who can help us get to where we need to be," said Thornton.
Morehead starts as pitcher for her Owensboro Apollo team, but see time as an outfielder during her collegiate career. "She is an athlete who has the ability to play more than one position," Thornton said. "Sarah is an extremely hard worker and will be a great asset to the program."

Preseason Poll (1-28-08)
Campbellsville University is the preseason favorite to win the Mid-South Conference Softball Championship in 2008, according to the coach’s poll released today. Campbellsville defeated Lindsey Wilson College 4-3 last year to earn the MSC Tournament Championship. Both teams advanced to the Region XI Tournament where Campbellsville advanced to the championship game before falling to Trevecca Nazarene.
The results of the pre-season poll are as follows, listed by school, last year's final overall record and poll points, with teams getting five points for a first-place vote, down to one point for fifth. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
Softball Signs Two Recruits (1-14-08)

Head Coach Thomas Thornton is pleased to announce the addition of two new
student-athletes to his 2008-09 Tiger Softball Team, Laura Smith (shown
signing her letter of intent above left) and Jenna Cantway (shown with Coach
Thornton above right).
Smith is an outfielder from Greenwood High School in Bowling Green, KY while
Cantway will graduate from Grayson County High School and is currently a
catcher but Thornton also expects to use her as a utility role.
"Both Laura and Jenna come from quality programs. Greenwood was the
state champion last year and Laura was a big part of their title run as
their lead off hitter. Jenna is a leader on a Grayson County team that
has spent the last three seasons with three different coaches but has
consistently been one of the top teams in the state," said Thornton.
Softball Field Lit for the First Time (10-15-07)
Let there be light! On Monday, October 15, 2007 Head Coach Thomas
Thornton was joined by current and former team members to watch as he turned
on the lights for the first time at the Georgetown College Softball Field.
It is a big reward for years of fundraising in order to afford the luxury of
a lit field. The rewards are already paying off as the Tigers have
been selected to host the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament in April
2008.
“It was an amazing sight, quite moving actually,” said former Tiger and current Assistant Coach Stephanie Carrico “When I came to school in 2002, I was promised they would be up before I left. We didn't quite make it for me to play under them but I'm definitely glad I got to witness the first time they were on last night.”
