Kevin
Calhoun, in his eighth year as the Head Tennis Coach at Georgetown
College, enters the 2007-2008 season with a 152-147 overall record.
His women's teams have accumulated a record of 85-66, while the
men's teams under his tenure have tallied a win-loss record of
67-81. Calhoun brings a history of success as a player and
official to his role as the head coach at Georgetown.
Calhoun has led the women's team to seven consecutive Mid-South Conference Tournament finals, winning the tournament in 2001 and 2004. The women have also participated in the Region XI Tournament in each of his seven years as the head coach. He was honored as the Mid-South Conference's Women's Tennis Coach of the Year in 2001, 2004, and 2007.
The men's tennis teams have finished in the top four of the Mid-South Conference during the seven years, and have advanced at least to the Mid-South Conference Tournament Semi-Finals each year since 2001. In 2005 the men qualified for the Region XI Tournament for the first time, and returned in 2006 and 2007. The past two years the men have finish as the runners-up in the Mid-South Conference Tournament.
In addition to excellence on the tennis courts, Calhoun's teams have excelled in the classroom. Calhoun has coached eight NAIA Academic All-Americans. The men's team was awarded the NAIA’s Scholar Team Award in 2005, and the women received the award in 2003 and 2005. "Obviously, the 'student' comes before the 'athlete' for a reason," said Calhoun. "Our tennis players pride themselves in being well-rounded people and striving for excellence in every area of their lives."
Prior to coaching at Georgetown, Calhoun was a standout player for the Tigers. He was a four time All-Conference player and finished his career as the winningest player in program history. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the college in 1998.
Calhoun also enjoys officiating tennis at its highest levels. As a line umpire for the ATP, WTA, and USTA, Calhoun has traveled the world to work such events as Wimbledon, the US Open, and Davis and Fed Cup. He also worked the prestigious tennis Master's Cup in Houston, TX in November of 2003, and was one of only 16 line umpires selected by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to work that event. "Being on court with the best players in the world is quite an experience," said Calhoun. "I enjoy the challenge of it, but also translating what the top players do to my college players is important."
Recently, the USTA
honored him by naming him the Kentucky Coach of the Year.
Calhoun, is the son of Mike and Sharon Calhoun. His father serves as

Kentucky University men's basketball coach. Kevin resides in Lexington with
his wife, the former Alison Witt, also a 1998 Georgetown graduate. The
