Track Members Break Conference Records at MSC Championship (4-29-08)
Georgetown College Track and Field competed in the
Mid-South Conference Championships held on April 26 at the University of the
Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. Overall, the women placed fourth
while the men finished fifth.
Individually, there were many highlights. Sophomore Britney Chesser took third in the 5,000 and won the 10,000 with a new MSC record of 40:37.
John Micheal Mayo won the javelin, setting a new conference record along the way of 58.62. Senior Derek Sword followed Mayo, while brother, Jacob Sword came in third. Tiger Ryan Maynard finished sixth. Both Mayo and Derek Sword have qualified as individuals for the NAIA National Championships to be held next month in St. Louis, Mo.
In the high jump event, both the female and male champions were from Georgetown in Allie Bertke and Daniel Grubb.
Shelley Markham brought home two third place finishes in the javelin and the discus.

Student-Athlete Athletics Council Awards Annual GC's on Sunday (4-28-08)
The Georgetown College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
hosted the third-annual GC Awards on Sunday, April 27th in the Georgetown
College Chapel. Former Tiger and current WKYT-TV chief meteorologist
T.G. Shuck served as master of ceremonies and gave student-athletes an idea
of how much they will appreciate the foundation that athletics helps to form
in their lives when they are in their chosen careers.
Shown left: Juniors Jason Frilling (baseball) and Katie Filiatreau (basketball) were named Mr. and Ms. Georgetown for their leadership and accomplishments in the classroom and in their sport and are congratulated by Director of Athletics Eric Ward.

Mayo Named Conference Male Track & Field Athlete of the Week (4-9-08)
Georgetown
College's John Mayo has been named the Mid-South
Conference Track & Field Male Athlete of the
Week. Mayo, a
freshman, came in second in the javelin
at the University of Cincinnati's Oliver
Nikoloff Invitational. The Pikeville native
threw 55.17 meters for the second place finish
behind Cincinnati's Brian Zimmerman. In
third place was Georgetown's Derek Sword at
53.49 meters, while his brother Jacob Sword
finished sixth with a throw of 47.45.
The Invitational, held last Saturday at Gettler Stadium in Cincinnati, featured student-athletes from several NCAA Division I, II, and III schools and 28 total competitors in the javelin event.
