Jeff
Hulsmeyer begins his first season as head coach of the Tiger
Volleyball Program.
“We truly feel that Jeff is the perfect match for Georgetown College and that he is the right person to take our program to the next level,” said Director of Athletics Eric Ward.
Hulsmeyer brings over 14 years of NCAA Division I coaching experience to the school, in particular time spent at Arkansas State University, Western Kentucky University, the University of Illinois and Purdue University, where he served as head coach for four seasons.
Most recently, Hulsmeyer returned to his home state to serve as director of volleyball operations for MidAmerica Sports Center in Louisville, KY, where the Mid-South Conference hosts its annual conference tournament.
“It’s a tremendous opportunity that I am really looking forward to,” said Hulsmeyer. “I can’t say thanks enough to Athletics Director Eric Ward and President Crouch for allowing me come and be a part of Georgetown College.”
The University of Kentucky graduate is the father of four and he and his wife, Michelle, are quickly becoming a part of the Georgetown College family.
His family connection with Georgetown goes back to his sister’s college career as, Nancy Hulsmeyer Hellman, was arguably the best volleyball player Georgetown College has produced and was inducted into the Georgetown College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004.
“I feel like I am really coming full circle because Georgetown Volleyball is a program that that I have had so much of a history in following and my sister having played here."
Assistant Coach Shannon Alford
is new to the Tiger coaching staff, but an extremely familiar face to the
Georgetown College campus. The 2006 graduate is a former Volleyball
Tiger herself, ranking in the school's all-time career matches played and
career digs. The defensive specialist received the Georgetown College
Courage Award for overcoming physical and emotional challenges after
battling back from knee surgery while her father was working in Iraq as a
police unit trainer. She was also honored with the 110% Award her
senior year.
As a student, the Commerce, Language and Culture major was a member of the
German club and was a part of the campus ministry missions teams and the
Christian Thinkers and Doers Team. In addition, she was associated
with the Georgetown College President's Apprentice Challenge Program.
Previously, Alford served as Development Operations Coordinator for the
college and coached volleyball at Tates Creek High School in Lexington for
one season. She says she is looking forward to being a part of the strong
tradition of Tiger Volleyball now as a coach, as well as "being able to work
with Coach Hulsmeyer and learn from all of his great experience at all
levels of the game."
Alford is a native of Indianapolis, IN and is a graduate of Cathedral High School where she was part of two state championship and one runner-up volleyball teams and was twice honored as an all-city selection. She is the daughter of Al and Eileen Alford of Indianapolis.
