Women's Soccer Finishes Year; Mid-South Conference Soccer Honors Given (11-12-08)
Columbia, Ky. - The Georgetown College Women's Soccer team lost
3-0 to Lindsey Wilson in the semi-final match of the Mid-South Conference
tournament hosted by the Blue Raiders on Wednesday.
The Tigers hung tough for 80 of the 90 minute match, holding the top seed scoreless before Lindsey Wilson put in three goals to move on to the championship match. Blue Raiders freshman Louise Christensen scored two of the three goals, including the game-winner.
Conference men's and women's soccer honors were presented between matches. On the women's side, Georgetown's Kristen Pratt shared the Champions of Character Award with Rebecca Rube from Cumberlands. Tigers honored as Academic All-Conference were Rachel Cohen, Katie DeVeau, Jessica Dixon, Savanna Evans, Emily Marshall, Sam Owens, Pratt, Krista Shouse, Jessica Velotta, Anna Wiederhold and Andi Wilhoit. Georgetown has more academic honors than any other conference school.
Men's Tiger student-athletes named to the All-Conference team were seniors Josh Johnson and Jarod Willoughby. Alex Martin and Bill Mercke were honored as Academic All-Conference Award recipients.
Tuesday's Soccer Matches Canceled (9-5-08)
Georgetown College Soccer's matches with Hanover College set for September 16, 2008 have been canceled. Hanover's campus was hit hard by Sunday's storms leaving the college without water and electricity and forcing administrators to send students home for the week. It is hopeful that the doubleheader will be rescheduled for later in the season.
Student-Athlete Athletics Council Awards Annual GC's on Sunday (4-28-08)
The Georgetown College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
hosted the third-annual GC Awards on Sunday, April 27th in the Georgetown
College Chapel. Former Tiger and current WKYT-TV chief meteorologist
T.G. Shuck served as master of ceremonies and gave student-athletes an idea
of how much they will appreciate the foundation that athletics helps to form
in their lives when they are in their chosen careers.

Georgetown College Names Crews, Willis as Head Soccer Coaches (3-4-08)
Georgetown, Ky — For the first time in the history of Georgetown College Soccer, there are two head coaches to lead the programs, as former Tiger Leah Crews has been named head coach of the women’s program and Georgetown native Derek Willis will head up the men’s program.
“We feel like both Leah and Derek are great matches for
our institution and that they will be able to pick right up because of their
familiarity with Georgetown College,” said Director of Athletics Eric Ward.
For Crews, who was an NAIA All-American during her 2004 senior season and
was named the team’s most valuable player three straight years, it is a
dream opportunity. “I have a strong sense of pride in what it takes to be a
Georgetown Tiger,” said the former goalkeeper. “I am excited for the
opportunity to carry on a strong tradition of sportsmanship, leadership and
commitment in striving to accomplish a common goal.”
While neither coach has prior collegiate coaching experience, both played college soccer and moved right into a coaching role upon their graduations. Willis, a former goalkeeper at Centre College, will leave the Central Hardin High soccer program after serving as head coach for three seasons. In addition, he coaches the Javanon club team and has served as an assistant at Scott County High and Berea College, as well as an instructor at many camps throughout the state. “With my current club team (Javanon), I work with some of the top soccer talent in the state and many are heading to play in colleges throughout the nation,” said Willis. He hopes his association with the younger levels of soccer will help in recruiting quality players to the Georgetown campus.
Crews served as head coach of the Lexington Football Club for two years and as an assistant for Woodford County High. She has made a name for herself by specializing as a goalkeeping coach.
Both Crews and Willis have served as assistants in the Kentucky Olympic Development Program and hope to give students a competitive advantage on and off the field. “I want to instill in my players that attitude reflects leadership,” said Crews. “I am very familiar with the demands of a smaller institution that stresses success in the classroom as much as success on the field and I hope to reference my experiences to help my students become successful individuals in all aspects of their lives.”
Hunt Breaks Georgetown College Career Records
Senior Brittany Hunt broke the Georgetown College career soccer
records in the three key areas of career goals, career assists and career points after scoring
three goals at home versus Pikeville College on October 13th.
The forward from Mt. Sterling, KY broke the previous records of 47goals
and 106 career points held by Emily Tingle since 2000. She ends
her career with 54 goals, 28 assists and 136 points.
"The best thing about the record is that she has achieved it
consistently throughout her four years and was recognized as a scoring
threat since she began her collegiate career," said Head Coach Anthony
Chandler. "Most players have one or two really good years but she
has had four. Plus the fact that she was our opponents defensive
target and could still score and get the ball to others on her team
really stands out."
Hunt also holds the Montgomery County High School career goals record
with a total of 102.
