Georgetown College volleyball coach Nick Griffin has
announced the signing of four student-athletes to Letters of Intent. Lindsey
Martindale, Corri Muha, Shelby Reid and Kristen Schellhaas will join the Tiger
program for the 2012 season.
"We are bringing in a very competitive class," Griffin said. "Each of them has excelled throughout their high school and club careers, and they are ready to come in with the mentality of competing right away. As this class joins our core of returners, you can understand why we are so excited for the future."
Here is a look at each member of the 2012 signing class.
LINDSEY MARTINDALE (Santa Fe High School/AVA)
Martindale is a 5-foot-9 setter from Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas.
A three-year starter for Coach Anna Marie Milligan, she led the Indians to 97 wins, a 2011 Bi-District Championship, three district championships and twice to the 24-A Region Tournament quarterfinals. Tabbed the District 24-4A Setter of the Year in 2011 and a Greater Houston All Star, Martindale also was a three-time all-District and all-County selection.
During her club career with Absolute Volleyball Academy (AVA), her squad qualified for two USAV National Championships, where they finished fifth last season in the National Division.They also won the 2011 Lonestar Qualifier.
"Lindsey has all of the talent, drive and intangibles to be another one of the great setters at Georgetown," Griffin stated. "She possesses the attitude and leadership ability that makes those around her work harder and become better. With her at the helm, our team will be in great hands for years to come."
Martindale is the daughter of Tommy and Randie Martindale.
CORRI MUHA (Lakota West HS/Cincy Classics)
Muha is a 6-foot middle blocker from Lakota West High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.
A four-year starter for Coach Tracey Kornau, the Firebirds won two Greater Miami Conference (GMC) Championships, captured two District Championships, and was the Region 4 Runner-Up in 2010. Named to the 2011 Under Armour All-American Watch List, Muha was also a 2-time all-GMC selection and a 4-time Academic All-GMC. She also participated in the 2011 Distrct 16 All-Star match.
During her club career with Cincy Classics, Muha's team won the 2009 and 2010 Ohio Valley Region Championships and placed in the Top 25 of the Open Division at the AAU National Championships the past two seasons. Another highlight was qualifying for the USAV National Championships in 2009.
"Corri comes from one of the top high school and club programs in Ohio and is used to a high level of play," Griffin said. "She will provide a solid block and the ability to terminate on the offensive end. What sets Corri apart as a middle is her relentless pursuit of the ball. We look forward to Corriand Caraline (Maher) combining to form one of top middle tandems in the NAIA."
Muha is the daughter of Ray and Joyce Muha.
KRISTEN SCHELLHAAS (Notre Dame Academy/NKYVC)
Schelhaas is a defensive specialist from Notre Dame Academy in Covington, Kentucky.
A three-year letterwinner and two-year starter for Coach Andrea Lanham, the Pandas won three District 35 titles, two Region 9 championships and were a Kentucky State Tournament Semifinalist in 2009 and 2011. For her efforts, Schellhaas was named to the Region 9 All-Tournament team in 2011 and was a four-time Kentucky All-Academic Team honoree.
During her club career with Northern Kentucky Volleyball Club (NKYVC), her team qualified for six USAV National Championships, where they finished third in the National Division in 2010. Schellhaas was also named the MVP of the Prep Volleyball Classic earlier in her club career.
"Kristen plays the game of volleyball with an intense competitive fire," Griffin stated. "That attitude and experience will provide a major boost to our defense and serve receive in the coming years. She has been a sparkplug for every team she's ever played on, and we expect nothing less when Kristen arrives on campus."
Schellhaas is the daughter of Ed and Nancy Schellhaas.
SHELBY REID (Notre Dame Academy/NKYVC)
Reid is a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Notre Dame Academy in Covington, Ky.
A four-year letterwinner and three-year starter for Coach Andrea Lanham, the Pandas were Kentucky State Semifinalist in 2009 and 2011 and made another appearance in the quarterfinals in 2008. Along the way, Notre Dame also captured four District 35 titles and three Region 9 Championships. Reid was named 2nd Team All State following her senior season.
During her club career with Northern Kentucky Volleyball Club (NKYVC), her squad qualified for six USAV National Championships, where they placed third in the National Division in 2010. Reidwas selected to the 16 National All-Tournament Team.
"Shelby's athleticism, work ethic and attitude will help make for a smooth transition to the college level. She will give us a six-rotation outside hitter who can play both in the front row and back row. Shelby has played against some of the top teams in the country, which should allow her to compete for playing time right away," Griffin commented.
Reid is the daughter of Spence and Barb Reid.
