Women's Basketball - Tue, Jan. 10, 2012

Georgetown College women's basketball team continues to climb up the rankings. The NAIA released the first poll of the New Year Monday evening with the Tigers (12-4, 5-0) coming in at No. 15. This is the highest ranking for Georgetown since the 2008-09 preseason poll. GC was No. 18 on Oct. 27, 2008.

The only other time between then and this season they have been in the Top 25 was at No. 25 in the Dec. 14, 2009 poll.

The team has received votes from time to time, but not until Dec. 5, 2011 poll were the women in Orange & Black back inside the Top 25. GC was No. 21 in the first regular season poll and then moved up to No. 20 before the holiday break.

Since Dec. 12, the Tigers have played three ranked opponents, winning two and losing one. Georgetown never trailed this past Saturday hosting No. 6 Shawnee State and at every turn had a response for a Bears' run.

The only team to have a higher leap in the poll is fellow MSC team University of the Cumberlands. The Patriots, riding a 12-game winning streak, jumped six spots from No. 14 to No. 8. Ironically the two will meet Thursday in Williamsburg. Tip is set for 6 pm. For the complete poll click here.
