Georgetown College baseball's first weekend of play is
not a total loss. The Tigers, who were supposed to head to Tennessee this weekend,
will instead be staying home for games Friday.
The threat of rain, 80 percent chance, made it an easy
decision for Freed-Hardeman and GC yesterday in canceling the four-game series.
It just so happened that Asbury University ended up in the same situation as it
was to travel to Union University.
"Every chance you get to play is great," said GC coach
Micah Baumfeld. "Generally we don't have the benefit of home games so early, or
even to start a season, but it just worked out that way. Once we knew we were not
going to Henderson and Asbury couldn't go to Jackson, it just made sense."
First pitch is set for 3 pm out at Robert N. Wilson Field.
"This is the nature of spring. One plan doesn't work or
can't happen, go to another plan," Baumfeld said. "Our seniors are really
excited about this, and I'm glad it all worked out."
