Georgetown College men's and women's basketball teams closed on a strong note this past weekend, reeling off two road victories for the first time since before Christmas break.
While both teams' fates were already determined for postseason play - women finished third and men second - each showed a will to win at non-conference West Virginia Tech.
The women Tigers came out strong and held a 49-19 halftime edge behind Jessica Waddle's eclipsing of her 1,000 career point. The senior finished with 14 points on the day to give her 1,009 heading into postseason.
Aaron Morris dominated for the men, scoring 21 points and grabbing eight rebounds. The Golden Bears made it interesting down the stretch, but GC hit free throws and took care of the ball to pull out the road victory.
The MSC tournament gets underway today with play-in games.
On the women's side No. 9 University of Pikeville battles No. 8 University of Virginia College at Wise. Thursday opens up action for the remaining eight teams in Frankfort. University of the Cumberlands and the winner of Monday's game will play at 2 pm. No. 4 Campbellsville University battles No. 5 St. Catharine College at 4 pm. No. 2 Shawnee State takes on No. 7 University of Rio Grande at 6 pm and then GC's women face off with No. 6 Lindsey Wilson College in the night cap.
The winners from the 2 and 4 pm games Thursday will play at 2 pm Saturday; while the other semifinal is at 4 pm. Finals for the women are set for 1:30 pm Sunday.
On the men's side, No. 9 Rio Grande plays at No. 8 Shawnee State Monday for the play-in game.
