Women's Basketball - Thu, Mar. 1, 2012

Lindsey Wilson's Monny Niamke, Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year, served a half-game suspension in the quarterfinals of the tournament Thursday evening. Unfortunately, for Georgetown College women's basketball team the speedy guard came out with a lot to prove in the final 20 minutes.

She scored 24 points on 7-of-10 shooting and 9-of-11 from the foul line with one steal in 15-plus minutes. The No. 17 Tigers (21-9) were the third seed, but could not overcome a late deficit in an 86-77 loss.

The Blue Raiders (20-11) used eight early turnovers in the second half to start a run that was insurmountable with power forward Ashley Rainey on the bench.

Senior Jessica Waddle led GC with 17 points. Mikkah Rogers also chipped in with 16 points and Andrea Howard 14.

Jasmine Brimm finished with 22 points, Rainey 17 and Ashley Franklin 11 to round out the double-digit performers for LWC.

LWC plays 4 pm Saturday against Shawnee State University, which beat University of Rio Grande in the 6 pm game Thursday. University of the Cumberlands will play Campbellsville University in the first semifinal.
