Men's Basketball - Fri, Mar. 2, 2012

The name of the game is survive and advance in the postseason and Georgetown College men's basketball lived by that motto Friday in Frankfort. The No. 12 Tigers needed overtime to take care of University of Virginia College at Wise, 79-71.

The Cavaliers (9-16) were sparked by a 39-point effort from Travis Berry. The feisty guard was 13-of-28 from the field, 6-of-14 from deep, and started the second half with a 10-0 run of his own.

Senior Johonne Hamilton came off the bench to lead GC with 22 points and hit a three early in the overtime that helped ignite the offense.

Maurice Pearson added 14 points and 13 rebounds and Jordan DeMercy had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Georgetown returns to action 8 pm Saturday against Campbellsville University (21-10), which easily won 68-48 in the quarterfinal night cap. The two sets of Tigers split the regular season meetings, but GC needed a last second tip in for the win at home back in December. CU built a big lead and then held on in Campbellsville in January.
