Georgetown College softball got behind early on the road
at Mid-South Conference foe University of Virginia College at Wise. The
Cavaliers (14-14, 2-4 MSC) scored four runs in the bottom of the first off
senior starter Michelle Dresselhaus. They also took a 3-0 lead after one in the
second game off of junior Katie Mann.
But the Tigers (17-9, 6-2) roared back for 6-4 and 5-3 victories
Freshman Kayla Williams came in to stall the Wise offense
until GC could get its bats going in the first game. She allowed two hits in
six innings of work with four strikeouts. Mann settled down in game two for the
complete game win, striking out three and scattering three hits. Only one of the
three runs was earned.
In game one, Chelsea Riney led the team in hitting, going
3-of-4 with a run scored and an RBI. The sophomore accounted for almost half of
the Tigers hits with three of the seven. Madelyn Brown had two RBI off her one
hit, and she also scored a run. GC clawed back with five runs in the bottom of
the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth.
Game two, Mann helped her own cause, going 3-of-4 from
the plate with a run scored and two RBI. The Tigers got back in this game a
whole lot quicker, scoring two runs in the top of the second. Then grab a lead in
the top of the fourth with two more runs. They added the insurance run in the
top of the seventh.
GC returns to action Wednesday in a doubleheader hosting
Midway. First pitch is set for 5 pm.
