Georgetown College women's tennis had a solid week this past week, the second to last before heading into postseason play. The Tigers (7-13) went 2-1 with wins over University of the Cumberlands and Centre College. They finished the week against a tough Lincoln Memorial team for the lone loss.
"We started the week strong with a 7-2 win over Centre and then came home for a rainout make up against conference opponent Cumberlands," said GC coach Jessica Cunningham. "That was an awesome match. We started strong, winning two of the three doubles matches and then never looked back."
The win secured a third seed in the upcoming Mid-South Conference tournament, starting Friday at the Boone Tennis Center in Lexington.
Georgetown will face University of Pikeville at 8:30 am in one of the three quarterfinal matches Friday morning. Cumberlands will face University of Virginia at Wise and Campbellsville University will battle Shawnee State in the other two 8:30 am matches. The GC/UPike winner will play the CU/SSU winner at 2 pm, while UC/UVa-Wise winner gets Lindsey Wilson College in the other semifinal.
The finals are set for 11 am Saturday. Click HERE for the tournament bracket and updates.
GC started the week with a 7-2 win over Centre in Danville.
CC picked up wins at the No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles, but lost in all other matches in straight sets.
Kaitlyn Thompson and Emily Krick picked up the Tigers lone doubles point against the Railsplitters. Krick won her singles match, 7-6, 4-6, 10-6, securing the only other GC point against LMU.
