Georgetown College's volleyball team finished one point behind Campbellsville University for a third in the Mid-South Conference preseason poll released Friday afternoon.
Both sets of Tigers were behind defending league champion Lindsey Wilson College, which collected nine of the 11 first-place votes. Coaches do the voting, but cannot seed their own teams. GC and CU each received a top spot pick, but Campbellsville finished with 87 voting points to Georgetown's 86.
"It gives us something to work for," said GC coach Nick Griffin. "It is a new experience not to be seen as the preseason favorite. Our goal isn't to be top before season; we have our eyes on being there again at the end of the year."
The past two seasons, the Tigers have lost in the championship match - 2010 to Shawnee State University and 2011 to LWC.
University of Rio Grande was tabbed fourth, after winning the East Division this past year. The RedStorm picked up 65 votes following a 21-15 season and 6-5 in the conference.
There are no divisions this year with only the top eight advancing to the tournament in Frankfort Nov. 9-10.
University of the Cumberlands, fifth; Shawnee State University, sixth; Cumberland University (new to the MSC), seventh; St. Catharine College, eighth; University of Virginia College at Wise, ninth; Bluefield College (new to the MSC), 10th; and University of Pikeville, 11th; rounds out the poll.
