Women's Soccer - Fri, Aug. 3, 2012
Georgetown College's women's soccer team was tabbed
preseason second behind national power Lindsey Wilson College according to
Friday's Mid-South Conference poll.
The Tigers (13-6-2) have steadily progressed each season
under fifth-year head coach Leah Crews Castleman. The toughest loss to
graduation was goalie Cathie Shaver, who finished the season with the second
most saves in school history. She also posted 13 shutouts.
Anna Ayers, Alex Harbowy, Alessandra Jansen, Caitlin
Williams, Kaitlyn Osborn, Lauren Brooks, Becca Dietrich and Megan Melanson are
back though to try to guide the Tigers to the next plateau.
The Blue Raiders have captured no worse than a share of
the league title the past 12 seasons and garnered all nine possible first-place
votes. GC was the only other team to get a nod at the top spot, as coaches
cannot rate their own teams.
Newcomer Cumberland University sits in third, two voting
points ahead of Campbellsville University. University of the Cumberlands,
fifth; Shawnee State University, sixth; University of Rio Grande, seventh;
University of Pikeville, eight; St. Catharine College, ninth; and Bluefield
College, 10th; round out the rest of the poll.
