Women's Soccer - Wed, Aug. 29, 2012
Georgetown College women's soccer wrapped up the second
of two preseason exhibitions Tuesday evening with a 2-1 win over Transylvania
University. The Tigers lost the first one 2-0 to Great Lakes Valley Conference
NCAA II member Southern Indiana.
"Both games were really good for helping us identify some
weakness as well as our strengths," said GC coach Leah Crews Castleman. "We got
down early in Indiana, but really played very well against a solid Division II
school. I was pleased to see the way we came back out a couple of nights later
and beat Transy."
Anna Ayers and Jackie Powell put the pair of goals in the
back of the net, while Kelsey Givens held the Pioneers to just one.
"We didn't play our best, but you have to be able to win
games like that as well," Castleman said. "I'm pleased with the way we battled
and I can't say enough about how the team is coming together. When you graduate
so many leaders and solid contributors it is the unknown early on that makes
the next year tough. I think we've done an excellent job of coming together and
this past year's leaders really groomed my next set of leaders."
The Tigers are off until the home opener Sept. 5 on iHigh.com
Field against Indiana Wesleyan at 6 pm.
