By virtue of its fifth-place finish in the Central Conference competition this past weekend, the Georgetown College team has taken over the No. 1 spot in the School of the Year Program of the Boat U.S. Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship Series.
Georgetown College stands atop more than 160 bass fishing teams representing colleges and universities across the country. The rest of the current Top 10 is headed by No. 2 Indiana University, followed by Winona State (MN), Murray State (KY), Oklahoma State University, Auburn University, University of Alabama, Arkansas University, Virginia Tech and Henderson State (AR).
GC Bass Fishing Team President Clay Elliott said their next competition is the Big Ten Classic, Sept. 29-30, at Madison (WI) Chain O' Lakes.
"Originally we hadn't planned to go, but we decided to fish this event to try and hold onto this No. 1 ranking."
Elliot is a senior from Pikeville who founded the GC team his sophomore year.
