Men's Soccer - Sun, Oct. 7, 2012
Taylor Shaver took a breakaway opportunity just more than 10 minutes into the game Thursday against Bluefield College and the Georgetown College Tigers never looked back in a 2-0 victory. It was the first lead of the season for GC's men's soccer team, which improves to 2-9 overall and 2-4 in the Mid-South Conference.

"We all knew we were right there with teams," said Tiger coach Derek Willis. "Our conference is brutal with the top two teams in the nation and a team receiving votes. But when we've played those opponents, everyone talks about how our record doesn't reflect what they see on the field.

"We just needed a game where we weren't chasing it. Today Taylor got a good shot off and later he assisted on the second goal as Tyler Whitehouse scored. It was a good trip for us."

Whitehouse scored not 10 minutes later for the cushion. The Tigers were outshot by the Rams (5-7, 1-3), but Stefan Iverson came up with the saves and pitched his first shutout.

Georgetown returns to action Saturday at future Great Midwest Athletic Conference foe Cedarville University.
