Eagles on Wednesday in the first round of the Buffalo Funds NAIA National Championship Basketball Tournament. Tipoff is set for 3:15 p.m. (EST).
Coined college basketball's toughest tournament, Municipal Auditorium hosts the March 18-24 event in downtown Kansas City, Mo.
Georgetown (27-4) was given a No. 4 seed. Other Mid-South Conference teams competing in the 32-team field will be No. 11 University of the Cumberlands and Lindsey Wilson College. Central Methodist is unseeded in the tournament and holds a record of 27-6.
"Coach Sherman has been at Central Methodist a long time and his teams are known to be smart and well-coached," said Georgetown coach Happy Osborne. "It is a tough draw with their school's proximity to Kansas City, which should enable them to have a big crowd."
Of the 32 teams, Georgetown is making the most appearances with its 28th and holds the most all-time wins in the Championship with 49 victories. Oklahoma Baptist is making its 22nd event and is 48-19 all-time. Defending national champion Oklahoma City did not make this year's championship.
"We are excited to be going back to Kansas City and we aren't going to take it for granted. We will go out and give it our best shot," said Osborne.
The first 30 games of the Championships will be video-streamed live on the Internet for a fee, while the National Championship Game on March 24 at 9:50 p.m. EST will air live nationwide on CBS College Sports Television with Jason Knapp calling the action and Sean Farnham providing color analysis.
In all, there are 31 games spanning seven days. The first three days pack in eight games each day starting at 9 a.m. Single session and all-tournament tickets are on sale through the Municipal Auditorium Box Office or Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com, by calling 816-931-3330.
