Men's Soccer - Wed, Oct. 10, 2012
Georgetown College men's soccer played its third Top 5
opponent Tuesday night when defending national champion Lindsey Wilson College
came to town. The Tigers (2-11, 2-5) got behind early and could never recovered in an 8-0 loss
as the No. 2 Blue Raiders (12-1, 8-1) were hungry to bounce back from a recent
setback to then No. 2 University of Rio Grande.
"We knew it wasn't the most optimum situation for us to
be going against such a powerful team," said Tiger coach Derek Willis. "They
had nine days rest, we had two, and they were looking for a statement after
losing the top spot to Rio."
LWC scored six goals in the opening 45 minutes and added
two more in the second half. Phillip Sandgren netted a hat trick. Eddy Campbell
had two and Tom Moody added one for the first six goals. Lebogang Moloto and
Yazeed Davids notched the final two tallies.
"I've seen two or three Lindsey teams that have won the
national title in my tenure here at Georgetown," Willis said. "This by far is
the best I've ever seen them. They are fast, strong and technical."
The Tigers return to action 3 pm Saturday at Cumberland
University (2-8-1, 0-5).
