Georgetown College volleyball team took its win streak to
20, sitting one shy of tying fourth-year coach Nick Griffin's longest win
streak. The No. 13 Tigers (21-2, 9-0 Mid-South Conference) traveled to
Barbourville for a tri-match with Indiana University Southeast and Union
GC dropped IUSE (12-10) in three, 25-22, 25-11, 25-19.
Then closed out the day with a 25-16, 25-22, 25-12 win over the host Bulldogs
"It's good to play in tri-matches where you have to play
more than one match a day, but aren't playing the whole weekend," Griffin said.
"When it comes to tournament time we are going to have to be ready for long
days, full of matches. This is just another way to experience that without
taxing the body too much - another way to add balance to the season."
Rachel Eubanks had 25 kills for the day, while fellow
sophomore Caraline Maher added 16. Rebekah Moore had 33 digs for the two
matches. Lindsey Martindale had 15 assists against IUSE, while Stephanie Gurren
had 16 against Union.
Griffin's first team started the 2009 season 21-0. The
current team could tie that total Tuesday at Cumberland University and break it
Thursday at Kentucky State University. It would be another record set on the
road for the youthful coach. He tallied his 100th win in three-plus seasons at
his alma mater Olivet Nazarene University's tournament.
