No. 11 Tigers (29-3) make quick work of their final match in the Boneyard Brawl with a 25-22, 28-26, 25-22 win over Point Park, which is receiving votes in the national poll.
"This is why we love this tournament," said Tiger coach Nick Griffin. "We really get a chance to prepare for the postseason in a few weeks, seeing a lot of the teams that will be in the national tournament."
Six of the nine teams are in the Top 25 or receiving votes - No. 5 Lee, No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan, No. 11 Georgetown, No. 15 Indiana East, RV Point Park and RV Taylor.
Part of the qualification for receiving an invite to this tournament is be in the previous year's national tournament. Georgetown College went 3-1 on the weekend, downing No. 5 Lee and dismissing Point Park Saturday evening. Saturday morning, the team also won in three over Freed-Hardeman.
"We need this type of challenge heading into the next few weeks and the postseason," Griffin. "I'm not saying we were complacent as we put together 25 wins, but we needed a weekend like this to begin a run."
The Tigers will play two more stiff Mid-South Conference opponents - Lindsey Wilson College, currently second in the league, and Campbellsville University. Then GC hits postseason with the MSC tournament and designs on the national tournament again for the first time since 2009.
