Georgetown College volleyball solidified its top spot in
the Mid-South Conference Tuesday evening with a straight-set win over Lindsey
Wilson College. The No. 11 Tigers (30-3, 14-0) took care of business on the
road 25-14, 25-23, 25-21 in Columbia.
Rachel Eubanks led the offensive charge with 13 of the 43
kills as the team hit .306 for the match. Rebekah Moore had 13 digs and Lindsey
Wise 10 to help keep LWC's offense to just a .179 hitting percentage. Lindsey
Martindale had 17 assists and Stephanie Gurren 15.
"It was good to see us come out in a rivalry road game
and assert our control early," said GC coach Nick Griffin. "We are currently
undefeated in league play with just one match left. The Blue Raiders were right
behind us in the conference standings so if we had dropped this match it would
have made for an interesting final week of play."
GC eliminated the possibility for a tie with the
season-sweep of LWC (23-12, 11-3), while the loss drops the Blue Raiders into a
tie for second with Campbellsville University (23-8, 11-3). Ironically, the CU
Tigers will be the final opponent of the regular season for GC when they come
to Georgetown for Senior Night 7 pm Tuesday.
Georgetown was preseason picked to finish third in the
conference behind Lindsey, the defending champions, and Campbellsville.
However, the youthful team has come together well, including a stretch of 25
straight match wins.
The top seed in the conference will play the eighth seed
to start the tournament Nov. 9 in Louisville. The quarterfinals will all be
played that Friday with the semifinals and finals Saturday, Nov. 10.
