Volleyball - Tue, Nov. 6, 2012

Rebekah Moore and Lindsey Wise were freshmen the last time Georgetown College volleyball compiled 30-plus wins and now as seniors are leading the No. 11 Tigers back to the top.

The pair along with manager Megan Shell were honored Tuesday night before the final regular season showdown with archrival Campbellsville University (25-9, 11-4). It was a battle at times, but GC pulled it out in straight sets 25-15, 25-19, 25-14. The team improves to 31-3 and 15-0 in the conference with an outright conference title and the top seed heading into the tournament this weekend in Louisville. Georgetown will play the No. 8 seed, which will be determined by nights end as all league teams finish up the regular season.

Three teams are tied for seventh and Georgetown will play St. Catharine, Bluefield or University of Virginia Wise 3 pm Friday quarterfinal at MidAmerican Sports Center. Semifinals (noon and 2 pm) and the finals (5 pm) will be played Saturday also and MidAmerican.

Caraline Maher led with 10 kills, Moore had 15 digs and Lindsey Martindale had 17 assists. Wise may have had the biggest service game of the night in set three when Campbellsville kept the game in a back and forth style. With GC holding a 7-6 edge, the senior stepped behind the line and gave her team breathing room it never relinquished.
