Georgetown College volleyball team began its postseason
trek with a celebration of the regular season at the Mid-South Conference
banquet Thursday evening in Louisville. The No. 11 Tigers finished 31-3 and
were undefeated in league play at 15-0.
The accolades to go with the accomplishments came pouring
in as Rachel Eubanks was named MSC Player of the Year and Nick Griffin was
named MSC Coach of the Year. Caraline Maher and Allyson Wilbourn joined Eubanks
on the all-conference first-team, while Lindsey Martindale, Corri Muha and
Rebekah Moore were honorable mentions.
The Tigers also had five on the all-academic team. Moore,
Wilbourn, Stephanie Gurren, Eubanks and Mariah Tesarz are all maintaining a
3.25 grade point average or higher and are at least sophomores.
Eubanks ranked in the conference's top-10 in three
statistical categories during the season, including fourth in kills per set
(3.1) and fifth in kills (347). She was ninth in hitting percentage (.293). The
sophomore was also twice named MSC Player of the Week this year.
For Griffin it is his second time being named the coach
of the year by his conference coaching peers. He helped guide the Tigers to the
2012 regular season title with an unblemished record. The fourth-year coach
also got the award in 2009.
The tournament, being played at MidAmerican Sports Center
in Louisville, kicks off at 9 am Friday. Georgetown plays at 3 pm against
eighth-seeded Bluefield College.
