Georgetown College baseball team had one of its best seasons a year ago and second-year coach Micah Baumfeld plans to continue to build upon that foundation. To start the 2013 season, the Tigers are nationally ranked and have two preseason All-Americans.
"It's an exciting time at Georgetown for baseball, but my staff and I know that we can't rest on that," Baumfeld said. "We've been out recruiting and got our first signee for the 2013-14 year."
Rick Reyes, currently at Wharton County Junior College, is a 6-foot, 205-pound third baseman from Corpus Christi, Texas. He hit .271 in his first season for Wharton, leading the team in doubles and runs scored.
"This is a great early signee for us," Baumfeld said. "We are excited to have him on next year's roster. Coach (Adam) Skonieczki has been working directly with Rick and Georgetown is reaping the benefits of his great work.
"Rick is one of our top recruits and for Adam to get him in here so early in the process is remarkable."
Reyes was selected to the Texas Junior College All-Star game in 2012. At Moody High School, he was selected first-team All-District, first-team All-South Texas and an all-state selection.
