Georgetown College men's and women's basketball heads to Shawnee State University for the start of the second half of Mid-South Conference action. Due to unforeseen conflicts, the Tiger broadcast crew is unable to do the games. However, the Bears' broadcasts of these showdowns can be followed at www.ihigh.com/shawneestate. GCAthletics twitter handle will also be sending out live information updates for fans.
The women's match-up is No. 13 GC vs. No. 19 SSU – in the previous meeting Shawnee was ranked No. 12 and the Tigers were at No. 23. The first game was an 85-75 win for GC just shy of two weeks ago. Georgetown is 7-3 in the conference and 13-6 overall, while the Bears are 6-4 and 15-5 overall.
"This is a huge conference match-up," said Tiger coach Andrea McCloskey. "We are sitting right there with each other. If we can get this win it gives us some breathing room in third place."
Tip is set for 6 pm.
On the men's side, GC is now receiving votes after stringing together five wins, including an 80-77 win over then No. 2 University of Pikeville on Saturday. Georgetown beat now No. 24 SSU 81-69 in overtime on Jan. 12 in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. Shawnee is 7-3 in conference, while the Tigers are 6-4.
"Shawnee is a tough place to play," said GC coach Chris Briggs. "Since they joined the league, we've not beat them there."
Tip is set for 8 pm.
Both teams remain on the road for Saturday showdowns with University of Rio Grande.
