For the first time in a while according to Georgetown College tennis coach Jessica Cunningham, both our men's and women's teams are in the rankings as was released Tuesday evening by the NAIA national office.
The men jumped from receiving votes in the previous poll to be No. 22 in the preseason poll and play their first match of the spring this weekend at University of Indianapolis. On the women's side, GC is receiving votes.
As a league, the Mid-South fared well with five men's teams in the Top 25 and three women's teams in the Top 25 with two others receiving votes.
The women's team has already played once this spring in an indoor match against NCAA Division I Belmont University. The Tigers lost 7-0, but are looking to rebound against University of Indianapolis this weekend.
"It is exciting to be receiving the recognition we deserve," Cunningham said. "It continues to show them that hard work does pay off and reap rewards. Now we just have to keep at it.
"Early on we are really going to test ourselves, which is only going to make us better as we enter a very tough conference schedule. I think we are all ready to get going and be playing on a regular basis."
Georgetown has only a couple of matches in the fall, but will really kick off its schedule during the teams' spring break trip.
