Georgetown College men's and women's basketball teams will be hosting a big night Thursday as Mid-South Conference foe University of Pikeville comes to town.
The games will be alumni night, and we encourage all alumni to come early, women tip at 6 pm, and stay late, men tip at 8 pm.
Governor Martha Layne Collins will be the women's honorary coach and introduced and honored before the game. She served Kentucky as its only female governor from 1983-87. She was also lieutenant governor from 1979-83. Her husband, son, son-in-law and father are all Georgetown College graduates and she most recently spent a decade-plus serving the college as scholar in residence.
Western Elementary's jump roping team will be on hand at halftime to entertain the crowd.
This will also be UPike's long time women's coach Bill Watson's final game in Georgetown. He will be retiring after three decades of being involved with Bears basketball.
The men's game will be a matchup of two ranked Mid-South Conference teams. Georgetown traveled to Pikeville earlier this season and defeated the then No. 2 Bears. UPike (19-3, 10-3 MSC) is now sitting at No. 7 and looking to improve upon its game-and-a-half-lead on the No. 22 Tigers (17-5, 9-5) in the conference standings.
The Tiger dancers will be on hand for the halftime of the men's game.
Let's go Tiger Nation. Pack Davis-Reid Alumni Gym and cheer the Tigers on to two conference wins. Also vote for the game to be game of the week by clicking this link for the NAIA Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/PlayNAIA?ref=hl.
