Accolades continue to pour in for the 2012-13 NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Champions. Wednesday afternoon the postseason Coaches' Poll was released by the NAIA national office. Georgetown College rose from No. 13 to No. 1. This is the first time GC has been back on top since March 5, 2008.
The No. 1 Tigers got all 11 first place votes for 281 points. Runner-up Southwestern Assemblies of God University finished No. 2, up from No. 6. Fellow Mid-South Conference member Lindsey Wilson College finished No. 3, down a spot from No. 2.
Georgetown's semifinal and quarterfinal opponents made some of the largest leaps. Louisiana State University Shreveport jumped 21 spots to No. 4, while Culver-Stockton went from receiving votes to No. 10.
University of Pikeville finished at No. 15 and Campbellsville University finished with receiving votes to round out the MSC schools in the final poll.
The Tigers started the week with a trip to Frankfort to visit with Gov. Steve Beshear, Sen. Damon Thayer and Rep. Ryan Quarles. The latter two are the elected officials for the Scott County area. Both took time from their busy political plates to create resolutions to honor the team.
Georgetown started with the meeting with Beshear before moving to the House of Representatives then on to the Senate. At both branches of the state government, the team was brought before each body where a resolution was read and a vote taken. Each group approved the resolutions.
