Softball Tigers got back on track Wednesday afternoon, beating St. Catharine College 8-4 and 6-1 in make-up games from earlier this season. Georgetown College is now 15-7 in Mid-South Conference action and 25-11 overall.
Madelyn Brown and Shelby Engle each went 2-for-3 from the plate. Engle had three RBI and a run scored, while Brown had an RBI. Chelsea Riney, back in her lead-off spot after a long time out with an injury, was the lone other Tiger with multiple hits. She went 2-for-5 with a run scored.
GC raced out to a 5-0 lead and scored at least a run in every inning but the first. The Tigers were up 8-1 in the bottom of the seventh, when the Patriots (18-22, 8-14) tried to make a rally. SCC brought three runs in off a Brittany McKee home run.
Kayla Williams picked up her 12th win of the season. Engle relieved her in the fifth inning. Both pitchers gave up five hits.
St. Catharine pushed a run across in the bottom of the first for an early 1-0 lead in game two. The Tigers responded with one run in the top of the second and then scored the winning run in the top of the fourth. GC added four insurance runs in the fifth.
Pitcher Katie Mann helped her own cause, going 2-for-3 from the plate with two RBI and three runs scored. She pitched a complete game, scattering four hits and allowing just one run.
Tigers return to action 1 pm Saturday hosting University of Pikeville. It will be Senior Day for Mallory Johnson, Mann, Brown and Hillary Plain.
