Men's Soccer - Fri, Apr. 12, 2013
Georgetown College men's soccer plays a lot of tough competition throughout the year with four or five teams inside the Mid-South Conference usually in the rankings or receiving votes. So why not test the Tigers in the spring season coach Derek Willis decided.
He set up spring games with University of Kentucky, Centre College, Southern Indiana and Spaulding.
Against the NCAA DI Wildcats, the Tigers lost 2-0. The defense allowed only four shots on goal the whole day and had a couple opportunities to score themselves.
GC followed that with a win over Centre and ties with the other two.
"For us to give up just three goals this spring, that's pretty impressive against that competition," Willis said. "We've trained well and competed hard. I'm looking for really good things from this team next fall.
"It's exciting when you can have this good of a feeling through spring practice."
Georgetown got down early to Spaulding but rallied back for the 1-1 draw. The Tigers played NCAA Division II SIU to a 0-0 game.
"Southern Indiana was fifth in the GLVC this past year and made it to the semifinals of the conference tournament," Willis said. "Our defense just played great all spring."
