Georgetown College tennis will be hosting a ball kid clinic as part of its preparation for participation at the Fifth Third Bank Tennis Tournament July 21-26 at Hilary J. Boone Tennis Facility on the University of Kentucky campus. The clinic will be 8 pm Wednesday, July 17 at Georgetown College and Georgetown Tennis Association is also helping with this event.
"This past year we did the serving cage at the tournament, which we will be doing again," said Tiger coach Jessica Cunningham. "But it is exciting to add this clinic as well to hopefully get some of the younger kids involved in working with the tournament as ball kids and being exposed to that type of caliber tennis. We will teach them the proper places to kneel and stand and the protocol for helping the matches move smoothly."
Then once the tournament starts, Georgetown will be running the serving cage again as Cunningham mentioned. It is an opportunity for tennis enthusiasts at all levels to test their service speed. A radar gun will be in place to clock the hit. All proceeds from the cage will go direction to Georgetown College tennis.
"We hope to see all our Georgetown fans and alum come out, enjoy some tennis, test their skills and help us raise some money," Cunningham said. "Michael and I will be out there every day, and we will have our players on hand as they are available."
It is a dollar per serve in the cage, but donations beyond that are always welcome. The clinic is free of charge.
