Georgetown College announced its first lacrosse signee earlier this summer and coach Brandon Davis is pleased to add an additional eight young ladies to the 2013 recruit class.
"This is exciting and very energizing to get this ball rolling," Davis said. "With this first group, I was looking to build the foundation. I have my core nine players, and we will be holding tryouts come this fall to add some additional players from the student body."
Joining Brooklyn Fox is Merrisa Heraldson, Taylor Young, Brittney Harnage, Amber Hunley, Willy Robinson, Elizabeth Roberts, Kaysie Smith and Jordan McClure.
Heraldson played for Eastern High School out of Louisville. She was the team captain this past year and was named MVP. Eastern won the Division II State Championship in 2012 as Herladson scored a career-high 10 goals in a single-game that season. She graduates as the Eagles leading scorer. Heraldson is a three-time all-star selection, a two-time Kentucky/Indiana national team member, an all-tournament and an all-division team selection, a two-time Outstanding Attack honoree and a KY All-State Midfielder this past year.
Young, another Eastern High School standout, was also a member of the 2012 state championship Eagle team. She was two-time Coach's Award honoree, two-time all-star team selection, and all-tournament this past year.
Harnage is a defender from Paxson School for Advanced Studies in Jacksonville, Fla. This past season, she was given the team's Golden Eagle Award. The honor, selected by her high school coach, is given to the athlete who shows the most sportsmanship, motivation, heart and leadership.
Hunley is a local product from Scott County High School. The Cardinals have been playing lacrosse for two seasons, for which Hunley has served as team captain. She was a 2013 District 4 All-Tournament team honoree and played in the all-star game.
Robinson was a founding member on the Pleasure Ridge Park High School lacrosse team that started in 2011. During her three seasons, she was named to the Brave Heart all-tournament team, Coach's Award at the Ohio State lacrosse camp, team MVP and graduates as the leading scorer at PRP.
Roberts is a graduate from Ballard High School. She is a goalie and is two-time Kentucky Goalie of Year, 2012 and 2013. In 2012, Roberts was the lone goalie selected to the All-State Team and this past year she was a member of the all-star team. She also perfected her goalie skills for two different club teams – UofL Cardinal Elite and Stealth.
Smith is a transfer from the University of Louisville. She is a 2012 graduate of Ballard High School. Smith is a two-time team MVP.
McClure is another Eastern High School product and member of the 2012 state champions. She served as captain of the junior varsity team her sophomore year.
"Now that we have these pieces in place, I can't wait to get them here and start putting it all together," Davis said. "We needed to hit the ground running with this program, and I think we've accomplished that. It is always fun to see a program being built from the ground up. Years from now we will be able to look back on this class and see how far we've come and what they were able to accomplish in making this a success program at Georgetown."
