Georgetown College football has been climbing the rankings poll in recent years, reaching the pinnacle top spot for the first time since 2002 this past season. After an early exit in postseason, the Tigers dropped to No. 8 in the final standings. However, are just outside the Top 5 in the preseason poll released earlier this week.
"Rankings are nice, but mean nothing on the field of play," said GC coach Bill Cronin. "It is nice that other coaches respect our program and our players. But, we have to focus on the game. Inside our own division we have another Top 10 team and two more opponents are also garnering votes in the preseason polls."
In the first four weeks of play, Georgetown will rumble with No. 9 Bethel University and receiving votes Kentucky Christian University, both on the road. Week six will be a showdown with Mid-South Conference East foe No. 8 University of the Cumberlands.
"The conference as a whole is getting more of the attention it deserves," Cronin said. "On the West we have three teams in the Top 25. The East has two in the rankings and a third receiving votes. This league is solid, and we have to be ready."
The Tigers kickoff in three weeks against Ohio Dominican under the lights at Toyota Stadium on iHigh.com Field.
