Georgetown College volleyball returns to preseason Mid-South Conference favorite. The Tigers finished atop the 11-team league a year ago in the regular season, while Lindsey Wilson College, a close second in the poll released Thursday, won the tournament.
"The MSC is getting stronger every year," said GC coach Nick Griffin. "It is always an honor to be respected by the other coaches. I expect to have several teams in the NAIA preseason poll to be released in a few days."
The Tigers received seven first place votes and a total of 79 voting points. The Blue Raiders had three first place nods and 75 points. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.
Georgetown ran the table during regular season, including tough wins at LWC and at Campbellsville. GC advanced out of pool-play at the national tournament and finished the season ranked No. 12.
Campbellsville is heavy favorite for third with 61 points. Shawnee State was tabbed fourth with 53 points. Competition starts to get a little closer as Rio Grande (51), University of the Cumberlands (43), St. Catharine (34), Bluefield College (24), Cumberland University (20) and University of Pikeville (10) round out the remaining seven teams.
The top six teams finished the season with winning records and five of those had winning marks in MSC play.
The 2013 MSC volleyball schedule begins soon and culminates in the conference tournament to once again be held at the MidAmerican Sports Center in Louisville on Nov. 15-16.
