Georgetown College volleyball is climbing the rankings once again, returning to a Top 10 team for the first time since the 2009 runner-up finish. The NAIA released the national coaches' poll earlier this week and the Tigers, which finished inside the Top 15 a season ago, was at No. 7.
"It's always exciting to get the respect and recognition nationally," said GC coach Nick Griffin. "This is a starting point for the season, but we have a lot more to accomplish. We know this only makes the target on our backs larger."
Georgetown opens next weekend in Columbia, Mo. against several top ranked opponents in the Best Western Classic. Season kicks off with a showdown against No. 24 Grand View, followed by playing host No. 2 Columbia. Saturday's action will feature matches with Hastings and Wiley.
"These past few years have been tough in respect to our expectations at Georgetown, but we have players that have bought in and worked hard. We are ready to see the rewards," Griffin said. "It ties in great with our quote this year from C.S. Lewis – hardships prepare ordinary people for extraordinary destiny."
