Georgetown College volleyball started the 2013 season with a split against ranked opponents Friday in the Hampton Inn Classic in Columbia, Mo.

The No. 7 Tigers (1-1) rolled No. 24 Grand View 19-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-22. In the night cap against host Columbia College, GC ran out to a quick 2-1 set lead, 25-23, 17-25, 28-26. However, the No. 2 Cougars clawed back with a 25-22 and 15-13 fourth and fifth set wins.

"Not a bad day," said Tiger coach Nick Griffin. "Both matches were good first tests, now we take on tomorrow and hope to come home 3-1 with a stretch of home matches."

The Tigers face Hastings and Wiley to wrap up the weekend in Missouri before returning to Davis-Reid Alumni Gym for Mid-South Conference showdowns with Bluefield College, Tuesday, and University of Pikeville, Wednesday, and then four matches in the Rumpke Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
